This is an exciting time for visitors on Kauai. The Humpback Whales begin their migration from Alaska as early as November, and they depart as late as early May. This mysterious mammal is believed to have a life span of at least 50 years. The male Humpback sings a "love song" to attract the females. They sing during the mating season in Hawaii. The tour boats are restricted to a safe distance as not to disturb these magnificent creatures. To witness this beautiful creature out in the splendor of Kauai's ocean is a memory that will never fade.

On all boat trips you have an opportunity to experience Dolphins, Sea Turtles, Flying Fish, Colorful Reef Fish, Sea Birds, pristine beaches and famous movie sites.  Most Vessels are equipped with hydrophones so you can actually hear the songs of the Humpback Whales.

There are a variety of different vessels that offer Whale Watching Tours. We work with all vendors so please email us and let us know if you have a preferred vendor.  Remember that during the whale watching season all boat events encompass whale watching.

I will never forget the story from my client who set out to go fishing and returned with no fish but the photo of a mama humpback leaping in front of their vessel!

Mahalos-Feedback:  I just wanted to say what an amazing time we had in Kauai! The part that you helped us arrange, the 'whale watch' expedition with the Explorer out of Waimea, led by Captain Tara, was truly magical. I know that the animals do what they want, but they are sensitive on levels we can only imagine, and the energy that our little boat put out was reciprocated by numerous whales and hundreds of spinner dolphins, in spite of  high and unpredictable winds and seas. Tara was able to enhance our appreciation with her scientific knowledge.  We were so enchanted by the Napali coast that we went back up to the north shore, and started the hike on the Kalalu trail, and then looked down on where we had looked up to by driving up to Waimea Canyon and Koke'e Park. Mahalo for all your help!

Join Captain Tara and local marine biologists for an exciting 3 hour snorkel adventure on Kauai's southern shore in Poipu aboard her 24 foot Zodiac "Hurricane", a rigid hull inflatable used by Navy Seals and valued for its quickness and maneuverability. It is certified for 20 passengers. You are in good hands with Captain Tara - she has a Masters License from The US Coast Guard. She is also a Marine Biologist, published underwater photographer and a dive master well acquainted with Hawaiian waters and especially the waters off Poipu's sunny coast. The 3 hour tour departs from Kukuiula Harbor near Spouting Horn. The adventure takes you to 'out of the way' snorkel spots that are accessible only by boat. You will have the opportunity to explore Poipu snorkel spots that others rarely see, and swim with colorful tropical fish and green Sea Turtles. The South Coast of Kauai offers many opportunities to see Dolphins, Flying Fish, and Humpback Whales (in season). You will receive a free underwater photo of your snorkel excursion. The tour includes all snorkel gear and wetsuits. Also, the tour offers a great lunch of gourmet sandwiches (Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, and Veggie) local fruit, Kauai cookies, Hawaiian juices, bottled water and soda.

These tours, dependent on the season, tend to book up a week in advance because they accommodate only 15 passengers on their rigid hull raft.  I highly recommend that you consider advance reservations.  If you prefer a catamaran, you have the option to go on their new 60' cat that offers a raft beach landing for a limited 15 passengers (ocean permitting), while the others on board are snorkeling off the boat. Please be advised  that parents should use their disgression in regard to their children in choosing the type of vessel.  For the rafts the cut off age is 5 years old.  The raft experience is more physically challenging than a tour on a catamaran.

Please note that afternoon tours are sometimes dependent on seasonal ocean conditions (yes, we do have a winter & summer).  You late risers may be asked to reschedule your event for a morning departure in the winter months.  Be prepared for this possibility.  It is also recommended that you consider making your reservation for boating activities as early to the beginning of your visit to allow for any unforeseen weather cancellations. This will give you a chance to reschedule and not depart Kauai disappointed.

Caution is advised regarding pregnant women and persons with special health concerns.  It is crucial that anyone on board has the physical ability to hold on and walk on board the vessels safely. Please inform us at the time of making a reservation if you are pregnant and/or have a health concern or disability. This will also help to guide you to the best vendor that can accommodate your special needs.  Mahalo!

Tip for those of you who are prone to seasickness.  My son and my husband both avoided boat rides for years because they get very seasick.  We all take motion sickness medication before bedtime the night before our adventure.   Check with your physicians for what they recommend.  Being prepared will enhance your experience!   * A popular local remedy is pickled or preserved ginger root, some even drink the tea.

Check-in times are subject to change seasonally.  Please call upon your arrival to verify your event check-in times  and it is a good idea to call for a weather check.

Rates, tours, & times are subject to change seasonally. Please also note that each vendor sets their own taxes accordingly and no percentages are the same.  Some include the harbor & dock fees, in addition to their excise tax within their rates & others add them after.
