Rates & Class Descriptions (All rates include Tax)

There are 3 levels of classes you can attend. They only teach a maximum of 4 persons per group. This creates a better experience because each student will have quality one on one time with their instructor. 

Beginner Group Class $65 
Student per instructor: Min 1 or Max 4
Beginner lessons last 90 minutes and they guarantee that you will surf! After the lesson you will be encouraged to continue using our equipment for the rest of the day for no extra charge. They want you to have fun and work on honing your skills! 
You will be provided with the following: 
Surfboard built for beginners
Quicksilver long sleeve rash guard t-shirt to prevent sunburn and rash from surfboard

Advanced Class $65
Student per instructor: Min 1 or Max 4
This class is for surfers who have been surfing consistently for 3-5 years. In most cases surfers bring their own boards and equipment, however they will be happy to provide you with a board and rash guard at no extra charge. This class is primarily for surfers who would like help understanding the HANALEI surf break and how to properly ride this famous break. Lesson will last 90 minutes and surfers are encouraged to use school's equipment for the rest of the day to hone their skills.

This class is for veteran surfers who want to experience the tow-in sensation of big wave riding.
You will be provided with the following:
All necessary personal equipment 
Jet ski's

Kauai is the Hawaiian Island's most spectacular destination.  It's perfect waves and gentle climate continue to attract surfers from all over the world.  With a total population of 55,000 people, Kauai's waters are never crowded.  The average ocean temperature is 75 degrees, making wetsuits an option!

The Kauai Surf School is owned and operated by the Dillberg Family. They have been involved in the sport of surfing since 1964, and continue to pass down the tradition.  The Dillberg Brothers, Jamie and Dustin, are young, professional surfers who want to share the excitement of riding waves.

Jamie Dillberg, a professional surfer with proven talent and skill, has turned his passion for the sport of surfing into teaching. With over 6 years of surf instruction behind his belt, Jamie provides thorough and effective instruction for all levels of surfing, from first-time beginners to competitive amateurs.

Dustin Dillberg, raised on Kauai, puts his "local" knowledge to work when teaching his students how to surf successfully.  Emphasis is made on learning the basic skills required to balance, paddle, and ride waves.  In addition, Dustin has a kind, friendly personality that puts his entire class at ease.

The Kauai Surf School makes learning to surf easy and fun!  They teach the skills that have you up and surfing in no time.  They utilize 10ft. BZ soft-foam longboards.  These have excellent flotation and cushioning and are great for beginners.

Surf lessons are offered daily for all ages and all levels.  All equipment and instruction included.

General Surf Lesson: $75.00 pp (tax included) ~ Ages 8 & older - 7 days a week
Semi-Private Lessons 2 Hour for 2 ($120 per student) $240

The Instructors:
Heidi Smyser, Operations Manager
Growing up in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, in the 60's, Heidi was not encouraged to surf by her parents. She could swim before she could walk and became an outrigger canoe paddlers, open ocean swimmer, and competitive bodysurfer. Her life has come full circle now as owner and operator of Garden Island Surf School.

Chris Kauwe: Head Instructor
Born a native son, Chris was raised in the Mecca of Surfing on the North Shore of Oahu. With his Hawaiian roots, Chris brings a deep passion to his cultural right to practice the sport of surfing. His 36 years of experience also attribute to his keen teaching technique. If Chris can teach his pet wild boar, "Ilio" to surf as seen on the Discovery Channel, Sally Jesse Raphael, Fox Sports, and Animal Planet, he can teach you. Unfortunately, Ilio can't come to a public beach so won't be at the lesson. Sorry to disappoint you.

Garden Island Surf School is a premiere surfing school on Kauai and provides you with a 97% success rate! They can also work with everyone from "first-timers" to long time "beach-goers" who want to have intermediate caliber?? lessons or those who want to ride the waves in a 4-man outrigger canoe! The typical class is held to 4 students, but they also offer special individual instructions for men, women or children who want "one-on-one" instruction.  Their staff are dedicated & committed surfers who live and surf on Kauai. They have state-of-the-art equipment and use only Red Cross "safety certified" instructors providing you with a safe and fun experience is their #1 concern. 

The bay fronting KALAPAKI BEACH offers some of the safest waters in the State of Hawaii.  The conditions here are well suited for a wide array of Water Sports and Activities such as: Surfing, Kayaking, Snorkeling, Sailing and Canoe Paddling. 

You are guaranteed to stand during your first lesson.  They  use safe, soft foam boards and emphasize safe surfing and wave dynamics.  For the more experienced, we have a selection of short and long fiberglass boards.  Each lesson takes about an hour and a half and includes board and instructor.
