Stand up paddle surfing (SUP), or in the Hawaiian Language "Hoe he'e nalu", is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. The sport is an ancient form of surfing, and reemerged as a way for surfing instructors to manage their large groups of students, as standing on the board gave them a higher viewpoint, increasing visibility of what was going on around them - such as incoming swell. To begin with, this started with using a one-bladed paddle, whilst standing on a normal length surfboard. The popularity of the modern sport of SUP has its origination in the Hawaiian Islands. In the early 1960s, the Beach Boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards, and paddle out with outrigger paddles to take pictures of the tourists learning to surf. This is where the term "Beach Boy Surfing", another name for Stand Up Paddle Surfing, originates.

The sport benefits athlete with a strong 'core' workout. SUP'ing is popular at warm coastal climates and resorts, and is gaining in popularity as celebrities are sampling the sport, and cross-over athletes are training with SUP. SUP’s have been spotted around the globe, anywhere where there is easy access to safe waters, as well as in the surfing lineups of the world. -From Wikipedia

Come visit the Westside of Kauai to enjoy this emerging sport. Offering lessons to beginners and rent brand new paddle boards to experienced paddle surfers. Kauai’s best source for paddle surfing equipment and instruction on the West Shore.

From the company that introduced Zip lining to Kauai comes a brand-new adventure—the first of its kind in Hawaii. A calm-water river stand up paddle board tour. You’ll paddle downwind, hike to waterfalls, ride a very cool little water zip line, and much more. Stand up paddle (SUP) boarding is the latest in watersport innovation and is taking the world by storm! Join them for a half day of discovery and see what all the fuss is about. Creek and paddle provided. After an informative and fun SUP lesson, your experienced guides will fit you with the stable, state-of-the-art SURFTECH board and paddle that are just right for you. You’ll be amazed how easy it is to put your best foot forward, and...STAND UP! Paddle and glide as we cruise downwind 2 miles along a tranquil jungle stream. While you’re perfecting your technique, enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Hule’ia National Wildlife Refuge, ringed by the majestic Hau’pu Mountains.

Step from board to shore and hike lush rain forest trails under a tree-shaded canopy. Cool off in the mountain-stream fed waters of the secluded Blue Pool, home to everyone’s favorite—the Water Zip! Just hold on, step off, and splash! Cannonball competitions encouraged. On the return trip, trade your Stand Up for a sit down, and relax while our motorized Hawaiian-style canoe brings it all home.

    Restrictions For This Tour
The tour includes short hikes, swimming, and stand up paddling. You’ll need to be able to walk about two miles over irregular terrain, & SUP 60-90 minutes. Passengers must weigh less than 240lbs* and be at least 12 years old.

    What To Wear & Bring
They recommend you bring a swimsuit, shorts, t shirt, windbreaker or light rain coat, and footwear with aggressive tread for muddy conditions. Sport type sandals with heelstraps or aqua socks with tread work great. And don't forget a hat, sunscreen, bug spray and a waterproof camera. You can buy these items at their shop, or rent sport sandals (as available).

Please note that occasionally tour guides will need to change locations or sequence of activities for hindrances such as fallen trees or raging waterfalls. But don't worry, they have lots of fun up our sleeves in case of flying monkeys or whatever obstacle you may encounter.

*If you exceed the maximum weight, but have experience on a surfboard please call to discuss your possible participation.
