As a long time
resident of Kauai, I have always relied on Julie Yukimura for all my craft
needs. They celebrated their 37th Anniversary on 4/1/10. The shop is filled
with special Hawaiiana fabrics & patterns, countless cross-stitch,
island needle point & designs, Hawaiian quilting, aloha fashions &
many handmade signature originals that will impress anyone! It will surprise
you to find as many men as well as women browsing through the shop. *
It is with great sadness that I inform you that Julie Reiko Yukimura, owner
of the Kapaia Stitchery and active person in the Kauai community, passed
away on Nov. 6, 2007. Donations may still be made to the Julie R. Yukimura
Charitable Fund, P.O. Box 1327, Lihue, HI 96766. She is missed by her
family, friends, community, and the countless visitors who loved her and
her special shop.

Pohaku T's is
a unique T-shirt, clothing, and crafts shop in Koloa. Most of their shirts
are designed in-house, the remainder by other Kaua'i artists. T-shirt designs
in their store are exclusively there, or only modestly distributed elsewhere.
Other clothing and crafts are made only by Kaua'i seamstresses and crafters.
Their "family"
of T-shirts includes men's, ladies', and children's T's, crop T's for ladies,
men's, ladies' and children's tank tops, long-sleeve T's, baby dolls, spaghetti
straps, T-dresses and tank tops (beach cover-ups), sweatshirts, 3 and 4X
T's, pocket T's, organic T's, ladies' oversized T's, 3/4 sleeve T's, muscle
T's, and more.
In aloha wear
(Hawaiian shirts), they provide quality made-on-Kaua'i shirts for men,
women, and children. Their shirts are all cotton, and include broadcloth,
dobby, and batik fabrics. Ladies can choose from open collar or mandarin
collar blouses.
Design themes
for T-shirts include Hawaiian petroglyph, Hawaiian navigation, Kaua'i sentiment,
Hawaiian Pidgin English, local humor, and Kaua'i culture among others.
Petroglyph designs are all composed of actual petroglyphs. In all cases,
they have either visited the site, or where that has not been possible
(some Maha'ulepu petrolyphs, e.g.) they have used library research to see
the carvings in the rock.
John Patt has
been designing and producing T-shirts since the late 80's. He opened Pohaku
T's in 1999 after a decade of selling my shirts wholesale, and at craft
fairs. Carole Hagen is his business partner. When you drop by for
a visit, tell them Lilikoi said Aloha!
Pohaku T's
is in Koloa on Poipu Rd (the road down to Spouting Horn). They are three
doors down from the Koloa Chevron on the left.

Girl ... The Vintage Collection
 In
1942 Kimo Kanahele & Leilani Kauanui fell in love & were married
on the garden Island. Kimo honored his wife with the now famous statue
of a seventeen year old hula girl who had danced and stolen his heart.
This statue was place in the entrance of the family business, a clothing
& gift shop. You will find a bronze replica of the famous "Hula
Girl" restored to it's original place to continue the tradition.
