Aloha everyone ... I have been assisting visitors to the Garden Island since 1997. I want to let you know that I am finally beginning the process of semi retirement this year. You will begin finding direct links to our most trusted and respected Kauai Vendors along with enjoying the helpful free island information that you have grown accustom to. I will be happily caring for my twin grand daughters and will have more time for my other grand daughter who does not live on Kauai. Mahalo for your kind support and business all these years. Mahalo, Lilikoi

Kamalani.orgis the website for The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park ... a volunteer  group of Kauai residents who are involved in creating the best Beach Park in the State of Hawaii.
Kamalani Playground is a source of pride and fun for all kids of all ages.  Located in the north end of Lydgate Park, near the Aloha Beach Resort.  It was built by 7,000 Volunteers in 1994 and has been enjoyed by both local "Kamaaina" and visitor families ever since.  Adults will be impressed with this extraordinary community effort.  The main features are a volcano slide and lots of art work.  Mosaics of ocean theme ceramics made by Kauai's children are complimented by Hawaiian wood carvings.  Designed by Leathers and Associates, it gets used daily.  The volcano slide and mazes are especially popular.  Behind the playground is a Japanese garden area and a labyrinth.

Breaking News, Friday, 02/09/07 - Last night the Kamalani Pavilion, built in 2004 with volunteer labor in Lydgate Park, Wailua, Kauai was destroyed by fire. The Kauai Police and Fire Departments are investigating, and late yesterday they had a suspect in custody. Kauai police would not identify the suspect, who has not been formally charged.

Fire and Police investigators and witnesses at the site this morning provided the following information. A person was observed with a fire burning in the Pavilion in the early evening, around 6:30 pm. The call to the Fire Department went in at about 8:00 pm Thursday, February 8, 2007. Hopefully the official investigation will uncover a complete set of information. Several volunteers who helped build the Pavilion have already expressed their strong support for rebuilding. While the wonderful koa carvings are a loss, the ceramic sea life mural appears to have survived unharmed.
There is a real benefit in going through the community build process, and people seem ready and willing to take on the challenge again. This is extremely sad news ... losing the pavilion built by so many volunteers. Those of you who have had the pleasure of visiting Kamalani with your families and children will understand this heavy loss.

The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park have had a Dream for a very, very long time ... Kauai's premier playground for kids of all ages.  In progress and near completion is the new Kamalani Pavilion.  The project has involved island children, adults, and the Hawaiian communty in it's planning and creation.  It is decorated with kids’ ceramic mosaics, legends carved in wood by local Hawaiian craftsmen, and students’ patterns embellishing the walls.  As you can see, this isn't just an ordinary pavilion.  Designed to include an intimate stage, sheltered picnic areas, and even a fire pit.

In the works are large landscaped sports  fields, group and family camping areas, more shade, better parking, extension of the existing 2.5 miles of bicycle & pedestrian paths along the ocean and around the park, with viewing decks overlooking the scenic beach.  * Most of the areas are now accessible to the public with disabilities. * ... The volunteers:  Maintain the existing facilities, participate in clean-up and work days, plan expansions and projects ... bike paths, camping, pavilions  & soccer fields, raise funds for the improvements, involve island children in planning and creating structures and art, have fun and make a difference!

The focal point is a playground bridge along the bicycle and pedestrian pathway.  There is shoreline fishing and parking for fishing enthusiasts.  Along the path, there is durable art featuring local historic themes and educational signage throughout the park and landscaping with native plants.

This expansion compliments these existing facilities:  The best swimming beach on Kauai, with rock wall lagoons.  A safe place for the littlest kids, great snorkeling with many fish, not to mention an ideal community built playground, with sand, slides, mazes, swings & more.  A large pavilion for community events, small pavilions for birthdays and other celebrations, large field for kite flying and games, oceanside picnic tables & barbecues, Japanese garden, and labyrinth.  Two and a half miles of bicycle and pedestrian path runs along the ocean and around the park.
